Traditionally, Asian cultures have incorporated significant amounts of soy products in their diets. One such product, natto, is a type of vegetable cheese that is produced from the fermentation of soy with a non-pathogenic bacterium, Bacillus natto. The enzyme produced from this fermentation process, known as nattokinase, has been widely studied for its use in cardiovascular and circulatory health. Nattokinase is a serine endopeptidase consisting of 275 amino acids. Laboratory studies indicate that nattokinase possesses stronger fibrinolytic activity than other known enzymes. Fibrinolysis is a normal biological process and an important part of an organism's ability to heal wounds and regulate blood clotting. Proper regulation of fibrinolysis can help maintain a healthy flow of blood through the vascular system and ensure that the body's major organs are continually supplied by oxygen, nutrients and other necessary products for complete health.

Nattokinase is water-soluble and does not need to be enteric coated in order to survive passage through the stomach. The nattokinase used in this formulation was developed to be free of vitamin K.
